Unlocking the Transformative Power of Goal Setting In Life Coach Training

Once you become a life coach

When it comes to achieving your dreams, taking the time to set realistic goals has been proven to dramatically improve results. Simply having a goal written down somewhere with actionable steps on how to achieve it can produce remarkable results.

However, many individuals are reluctant to set goals and lack the accountability and support system needed to achieve them. Life coaches have the power to change that. Equipped with very specific problem solving and goal-setting skills and expertise, life coaches can guide clients on a path towards achieving what they may never have thought possible.

If you’re considering enrolling in a life coach program, read on to learn about the transformative power of setting goals.

Goal Setting Is an Important Part of Certified Life Coach Training

Goal setting is a powerful tool that can help people work towards their dreams. Surprisingly, not many individuals make specific goals, and even fewer are able to commit to them. According to a study conducted by Harvard Business, 83 per cent of people don’t set goals and only 3 per cent actually have their goals written down (Personal Plan, 2012).

While these numbers may seem discouraging, professionally trained life coaches are making a huge difference in goal setting success rates by providing clients with the tools and insights necessary for creating short- and long-term goals. For this reason, learning how to help clients set goals and learning how to set your own personal goals is an important part of attending life coach training.

Helping Clients Create Impactful Goals After Life Coach Training

Once you become a life coach, you’ll help your clients discover what they truly want out of life. Many individuals don’t achieve their goals because they might have two conflicting goals or may have goals that aren’t representative of what they truly want. In addition, confiding in family members and friends can cause a client to adjust their goals to suit their loved ones’ expectations. Life coaches provide an unbiased perspective and help clients discover which goals are truly important to them (Life Coach Spotter, 2016).

The process of helping clients set goals is relatively complex. Often before goals are even set, your client will need to go on a journey of self-discovery to realize what they truly want. You’ll use specific techniques and your own expertise to guide your client through these processes. Then, you’ll help your client form a big-picture long-term goal as well as short-term incremental goals that will help them create the success they desire. (Life Coach Spotter, 2016).

In addition to assisting your clients with forming goals, you’ll also provide an important source of accountability. During your weekly or monthly sessions, your client knows you will be checking their progress and assisting them to be accountable. (Life Coach Spotter, 2016).

Personal Goal Setting in Life Coach School and Beyond

Not only is knowing how to set effective and reasonable goals important for helping clients, but it’s also an important skill to have for your own personal success in life coach school and beyond. Training to become a life coach includes undertaking your own journey of self-discovery. This experiential approach provides you with the insights needed to help guide your clients through their journey. In addition, you’ll be able to apply what you learn. Whether you want to improve your grades, gain a certain amount of work experience, or stop a habit of procrastinating, goal setting can help you get there. Once you graduate from life coach training, you can use your goal-setting skills to create actionable steps to help you progress towards your dream career and ideal lifestyle.
