VLMFSS Job Posting | Position: Multicultural Outreach Community Worker
VLMFSS is non-profit organization offering free and confidential services to immigrant,
visible minority, refugee and women without immigration status and their families who are experiencing
family violence. We are located in Burnaby but we serve clients in the entire Metro Vancouver.
 
We are immigrant, visible minority and refugee women helping other immigrant,
visible minority and refugee women by providing:
  • Culturally and linguistically sensitive services
  • Advocacy, counselling, & support through our bi-lingual, bi-cultural workers
  • Continuity of support.

The Multicultural Outreach Community Worker must be proficient in Korean, Farsi or Tagalog (Filipino) language. There are 3 positions open; 1 for each language. 

She will provide individual and/or group support and advocacy with immigrant, refugee, visible minority, no immigration status women and their children who are facing gender-based/ family violence.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Relevant university Certificate in Social Work/Counselling, one-year relevant
experience or a combination of education and experience.

Other Qualifications:
• Knowledge of dynamics of gender based violence, and acculturation issues
impacting immigrant, refugee and visible minority women and their children
• Experience in providing supportive counselling
• Experience in organizing and conducting support groups
• Experience in advocating on behalf of vulnerable populations
• Ability to be empathetic and sensitive to socio-economic and ethno-cultural values
• Effective cross-cultural communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Knowledge of other languages an asset
• Knowledge of relevant resources
• Ability to work effectively with other professionals in the community
• Proficient in using office equipment and software applications

Requirement: Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Hours: 35 hours per week
Pay Range: $23.10 – $26.91- Grid Level 11 JJEP Grid. This position requires union
membership.
